I just completed the first draft of my cover letter, and have yet to start my resume. My cover letter is in the beginning stages and I feel it still needs to be worked on, a lot. It is a very rough draft, I think it is too short and missing information that I couldn’t think of at the time.
I have never written a cover letter before; being inexperienced makes this project a challenge. I also do not have much of the experience and/or education required by most of the jobs I have been researching which makes it difficult to “prove myself” in the cover letter.
Michael,
ReplyDeleteI don't think you necessarily have to prove yourself in the cover letter. It think you have to hone in on your qualities and experiences whatever they are and use them to write your letter. For instance, when I was a kid I worked as a security guard....yes tiny me a security guard. But working in that job enabled me to understand how I could work well with others, be a trusted voice and at times a calming one and how to direct others in emergencies. These were just some things I did and all of them relate well to teaching. I work with students and colleagues, I try to be understanding and patient with students (and sometimes colleagues) and I work with students who have writing "emergencies". How can you transfer your skills into your CV Letter and resume like I have here?
