In response to the state of the union address, I offer you a few ideas. The president asked for ideas on how to make this the best place to do buisness. He also mentioned the deficit. Lastly I would like to address government reform.I hope my ideas make spark some of your own. I would love this to be the start of a conversation that begins real change.
How do we make the U.S. the best place to do business ? All companies should receive free internet . This would spur growth through increased commerce . Cost of service should be picked up by the Federal government. A rise in the gross national product coupled with reduction in unemployment rate would help to offset this cost. A number of secondary benefits would arise from this as well. A reduction in paper will certainly arise from e-commerce. Transportation costs will decrease ,consumers will not need to flock to the mall. While in the short term jobs may be lost, this would allow for the upgrade to the workforce. College financial aid should be directed to the areas where we are lacking as a country. The sciences ,like green technology, should be fully funded while money for undeclared majors should be tightened up. Perhaps a mandatory part of enrollment should be a test charting your abilities. The tax payer savings would reduce the tax rate and also spur the economy.
The ever growing deficit needs to be dealt with as well. Stimulating the economy can help reduce the national debt. As American business grows we will import less and export more. This is a first step. The stronger our economy the lower the interest rate we will get charged on borrowed money . This reduces our debt. Relying less on imported oil and using our new emerging green energy sources will also tip the scale in our favor.A more active diplomatic core will help reduce the military portion of the deficit. How much would we have saved by not going to Iraq or Afghanistan? Those billions of dollars would significantly reduce the debt.
How do we reform the government? Shall we appoint a Czar of smoked salmon? Reducing the size of government is important. Prior to that to enact real change we need an over haul of campaign finance and the reworking of laws governing lobbyists.
Great piece, great minds think alike
ReplyDeleteYou propose a lot of great ideas here. Could you pick one and elaborate on how you think that we can accomplish it? In other words you mention reducing paper use...what kind of paper, in what places and how could this be accomplished.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I concure.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure that e-commerce will reduce paper usage. A study of garbage dumps in the 80's and 90's show that more paper was being used to back up information on hard drives. With new memory hardware though this might improve. I do agree with a smaller goverment on all levels.
ReplyDeleteE-commerce means no bill in the mail , no paper catalog,no check writing or using envolopes. How many catalogs do we receive a year? Multiply that by the number of people in America, a lot of waste of paper and ink. All of this goes to the landfill where if recycled, we use alot more energy to recaputure that paper to print more catalogs.
