Psychology vs. State of the Union

Taylor Maresco 2/2/11
State of the Union Question

President Obama’s State of the Union address was a strong, lecturing speech on ways to improve the United States. Major improvements that need to be addressed were the weakening of our economy and our need for jobs. The speech was a rather positive one, which most of the State of the Union address’s are; but it opens up the world for the younger adults during this time that finding a job when everyone gets out of college will not be as hard and as scarce. Struggling jobs, businesses and small ownerships are stressed and are slowly going under. President Obama mentioned we are all part of a family and that we can and we should all believe that America can turn around for the better. For example he mentions’ in his speech that in a few years education will be on the rise and we will require more teaching staff. President Obama also says that even though schools are letting teachers go that, that will turn around and we will need more teachers. Children’s education is very important and we need teaching staff to help children succeed.
Saying that someone can change the world seems easy, easy to say. But if I had the chance to change the world I believe I would focus on three things. I would bring all of our troops and loved ones home from war sooner, open up the opportunity for more jobs, and center my attention on our environment mainly global warming and its effects on us in the near future. My future profession, a psychologist, could help me change the world by giving struggling citizens the spirit and support they need to turn their lives around and succeed. I could openly give suggestions that will affect both people and the economy that is around them. Being a psychologist I could look more deeply into situations and evaluate what is good or bad for our country and how Americans will react to it. Unfortunately my profession of my choice would focus more on people’s feelings rather than making the decision and being able to change the world. Decisions are hard and that’s what a psychologist is here for the opportunity to ease stressed situations and to open doors to more optimistic suggestions to help our struggling events that occur in the United States of America today.

  1. I agree with bringing home the troops soon. I do not agree with the war anymore. Respect the troops and criticize the goverment. The enviroment is important. I am personnaly concerned with soil contamination and water quality.

  3. I also agree with bringing home the troops because I feel like We have lost sight of our aims. I'm no longer sure why we're there but having said that, Just how many troops can come home really depends on many factors. A total withdrawal will be impossible. Afghanistan cannot survive without US support. The Taliban are ready to move back in.
