Travis state of the union response

"What would you change about the world?” That is a question I think everyone would like a chance to answer. Everyone CAN change the world, whether it is in a big way or a small way. While the world is not a perfect place, I don’t know how I would use my career to change it, and I’m not sure if I’d want to. The career I am studying for is not what I’d use to change the world, as it’s more of a fallback for me. I would love to change the world with music, which is what I love, but I don’t think that matters politically, or it shouldn’t at least. All of these bands or artists that get involved with politics, or use their public image to try and change people’s opinions are self righteous morons, in my opinion. I’ve seen it happen on many occasions. Punk band fans become angry liberals. Jam band fans want Marijuana legalized. Heavy metal fans become anarchists. I guess the point I’m trying to make is I don’t want my career to be involved with politics at all, as I’m not a political person.

  1. I agree with you, music is important and can be positive to certain people including me. Seeing that I am a dance teacher I believe music moves people. If only this world wasn't all about politics we would have happier people and no wars.

  2. I liked your post. I think that everything you said is very true. Some people just should not get involoved with politics even when they do not know the entire story just their point of view.

  3. I agree to an extent, but I don't think politics are limited to just politicians. At the end of the day the United States is supposed to be ALL of OURS, not just politicians. We have a voice, and that voice is supposed to be represented by the people we elect.

Musicians who make statements like Kanyes "George Bush hates black people" is moronic. But I believe someone using their popularity to send a well thought out message is a huge advantage.

  4. I am sure your music could change the world in a significant way if you wanted it to. Music is a part of basically everone's lives and it doesn't need to be involved in politics to make a difference. There are also many bands or artists that use their music or their face to make differences. Also, for me, without music i honestly don't know what i would do. my ipod is attached to my hip most of the time and i can't take a car ride without my ipod connected and the music playing... and me singing along obnoxiously. So i hope this helped and you can see how your career can change the world.

  5. I think it is the best way to live life is being liberal. But there is not a such place and subject which doesnt not related with politic. I think every individual has the right to make a good decision and have a wonderful life.

  6. This is a real response. I feel like music has played a big role in history and although it is very important and a good way to express yourself, many artists get out of hand and use their fame to try and persuade people to think a certain way. I think music should be made for yourself, not to try and preach to people.

  7. Inb4 cool story bro

But thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. I just wasn't a huge fan of the assignment at hand, as there was nothing you could choose that didn't put you in the position of "Make your career make a difference!"

I wanna make a difference in other ways

  9. Every job has some sort of politics that is involved with it. The study of politics is my major and what I have come to realize is that politics plays a role in every job america has.
